REAR WINDOW

The residence is a contemporary interpretation of the dollhouse-home, an archetype that reveals the life within through a sectional opening at the back. It stands between the old and the new, preserving the structure and gravitas of the neoclassical house while consciously distancing itself from imitation of the past.

The intention was to translate the spirit of the neoclassical — to preserve a sense of familiarity without losing the truth of the present through mere reproduction. The composition borrows architectural elements from the neoclassical tradition — rhythm, proportions, arched openings, the central entrance, high-ceilinged spaces, the elevated living room, and the tall vertical windows. All of these reappear through a contemporary architectural approach that retains the character and refinement of the type, while expressing itself with clarity and simplicity.

The three façades operate as transitional surfaces — almost like an application interface — protecting the interior while allowing life within to remain perceptible. The rear façade reveals the interior of the house: a single glazed plane opens it toward the party wall of the family home, transforming the “rear window” into its true window — a sectional cut that brings the flow of everyday life into light and connects the neoclassical structure with contemporary architectural thought.

On the rooftop, the cloud-like pergola symbolizes the cloud of memory — the place where the home’s new experiences and memories are created and stored over time. The sun-stair functions as a pathway, a channel of communication between levels — like a data pipeline connecting the base to the cloud, the physical to the immaterial, earth to sky, thought to contemplation.

The house is a canvas with a strong identity, capable of accommodating different color palettes without losing its coherence or charm.

A house that remembers the past, stands clearly in the present, and anticipates the future — a house where the desired familiarity finds new life, with respect for the truth of contemporary reality.

Η κατοικία είναι μια σύγχρονη ερμηνεία του σπιτιού-κουκλόσπιτου, ενός αρχέτυπου που αποκαλύπτει τη ζωή στο εσωτερικό του μέσα από μια τομή στο πίσω μέρος. Στέκεται ανάμεσα στο παλιό και το νέο, κρατώντας τη δομή και τη σοβαρότητα του νεοκλασικού, αλλά με συνειδητή απόσταση από τη μίμηση του παλιού.

Η πρόθεση ήταν να μεταφραστεί το πνεύμα του νεοκλασικού να διατηρηθεί το οικείο, χωρίς να χαθεί η αλήθεια του σήμερα μέσω της απλής αναπαράστασης. Η σύνθεση δανείζεται αρχιτεκτονικά στοιχεία του νεοκλασικού — τον ρυθμό, τις αναλογίες, τα τοξωτά ανοίγματα, την κεντρική είσοδο, τους ψηλοτάβανους χώρους, την υπερύψωση του καθιστικού και τα υψίκορμα παράθυρα. Όλα αυτά επανέρχονται μέσα από σύγχρονη αρχιτεκτονική σκέψη, που διατηρεί τον χαρακτήρα και την ευγένεια του τύπου, αλλά εκφράζεται με καθαρότητα και απλότητα.

Οι τρεις όψεις λειτουργούν ως μεταβατικές όψεις (σαν application interface) · προστατεύουν, αλλά αφήνουν τη ζωή να διαφαίνεται. Η πίσω όψη αποκαλύπτει το εσωτερικό του σπιτιού: ένα ενιαίο γυάλινο επίπεδο το ανοίγει προς τη μεσοτοιχία του πατρικού, μετατρέποντας το “rear window” στο πραγματικό παράθυρό του — μια τομή που φέρνει στο φως τη ροή της καθημερινότητας και συνδέει τη νεοκλασική δομή με τη σύγχρονη αρχιτεκτονική σκέψη. Στο δώμα, η πέργκολα-σύννεφο συμβολίζει το cloud μνήμης — τον τόπο όπου γεννιούνται και αποθηκεύονται στον χρόνο οι νέες εμπειρίες και αναμνήσεις του σπιτιού. Η σκάλα-ήλιος λειτουργεί σαν pathway, ένα κανάλι επικοινωνίας ανάμεσα στα επίπεδα — όπως ένα data pipeline που ενώνει τη βάση με το σύννεφο, το φυσικό με το άυλο, τη γη με τον ουρανό, τη σκέψη με τον στοχασμό.

Το σπίτι είναι ένας καμβάς με έντονη ταυτότητα, ικανός να δεχτεί διαφορετικές χρωματικές παλέτες χωρίς να χάνει τη συνοχή και τη γοητεία του.

Ένα σπίτι που θυμάται το παρελθόν, στέκεται καθαρά στο σήμερα και προσμένει το αύριο — ένα σπίτι όπου το επιθυμητό οικείο βρίσκει νέα ζωή, με σεβασμό στην αλήθεια της σύγχρονης πραγματικότητας.
