DECONSTRUCTED CASTLE

Deconstruction means breaking down and analyzing something in order to reinterpret it and discover its true significance.

The transformation of the apartment building in Glyfada into a single-family residence is based on a dialogue between the building’s existing shell — a three-dimensional reinforced concrete grid — and an additional curved ceramic surface that moves in and out of it, generating a new façade expression and a new spatial narrative within the interior.

The addition of this ceramic surface, resembling an imagined deconstructed castle, both connects and separates spaces, shaping new uses and activities through an effortless flow. Its primary aim is to create a holistic spatial experience that activates a sense of familiarity and security while awakening memory, transforming a rigid residential building into a contemporary emotional dwelling.

Η μετατροπή της πολυκατοικίας στην Γλυφάδα σε μονοκατοικία βασίζεται στον διάλογο μεταξύ του υφιστάμενου κελύφους του κτιρίου που αποτελεί ένα τρισδιάστατο κάναβο από οπλισμένο σκυρόδεμα με μια επιπρόσθετη κεραμική καμπύλη επιφάνεια που καθώς εισέρχεται και εξέρχεται από αυτό δημιουργεί μια νέα μορφή στην όψη και μια νέα πλοκή στον εσωτερικό χώρο. Η προσθήκη αυτής της κεραμικής επιφάνειας που προσομοιάζει ένα νοητό αποδομημένο κάστρο συνδέει και διαχωρίζει χώρους διαμορφώνοντας νέες χρήσεις και δραστηριότητες με αβίαστη ροή και έχει σαν κύριο στόχο την δημιουργία μιας συνολικής χωρικής εμπειρίας που θα ενεργοποιεί την αίσθηση της οικειότητας και της ασφαλείας και θα αφυπνίζει την μνήμη μεταμορφώνοντας ένα άκαμπτο κτίριο κατοικιών σε μια σύγχρονη συναισθηματική κατοικία.
